Close Games becoming Everyday thing for Kell Boys!

Kell boys basketball are getting some good experience in close game thus far this year. Five of the Nine games played this year have been decided by 8 points or less. With a relatively young and inexperienced roster (6 Seniors, 7 Juniors, 1 sophomore, 1 Freshman), these early close games are giving them the experience they need and will hopefully pay off as the season goes on. Kell has gone 1-4 in those close games but had opportunity to win each of them late in the 4th quarter.
Kell has had a balanced attack averaging 60 points per game and giving up 59 per game. While three players (Ben Caulk, Bryant Stewart, and Marlon Anthony) are averaging over ten points per game, 6 are averaging 6 points or more. Check out the stats posted online to see more.
After beating Sequoyah last Tuesday to bring their record to 3-2, the boys have dropped the last three games, including losing last night to arch rival Lassiter in a tight contest. They look to get back on track Friday when the Sprayberry Yellow Jackets go to Kell at 7:30pm.
While no one can predict the future, if the beginning of this season is any indication one thing is for certain, Kell Boys Basketball fans are in for a nail biting season full of excitement and competitive basketball!!!

Kell Downs the Chiefs at the War Lodge!!

The Longhorns (3-2) used a heavy dose of execution on offense in the first half and a free throw shooting clinic in the second accompanied by stifling zone defense to beat Sequoyah 66-56 Tuesday night. The win was much needed after blowing a lead on Friday night against Alpharetta and not performing well against Green Forest last Saturday. Marlon Anthony, who not only had 17 points and 10 rebounds, also had the most exciting play of the game when he dunked over two Sequoyah players in the first half. Terrence Slade and Bryant Stewart both had their best games of the year so far with 19 and 18 points respectively. The Lonhorns will hope to continue the success this Friday when they travel to Central Gwinnett.

Boys start 2-0 after tight win versus Walker

Kell boys started the year 2-0 after beating a Walker team that would not go away. Kell led most of the game, but could never put Walker away. Leading by 1 point with six seconds remaining, the Lonhorns forced the ball the the corner of the court and Walker never got a potential game winning shot off. Kell was led by Marlon Anthony and Ben Caulk, but really gave a great team effort to get the W.

Two new Coaches join the Kell Basketball Staff

Kieth Whitaker and Dave Brown this year as assistant coaches to Coach White. This makes things a lot easier compared to last year when Coach White had one assistant going into the year until Coach Melvin decided to help out. With Coach Melvin concentrating on his Personal Training career, there will be a new coach at each level. Coach Whitaker is teaching in the career tech department while Dave Brown is in the Special Education department. With Coach White and McClure coaching freshmen football, they are conducting the workouts after school.

Basketball Workouts

After School workouts have started and will continue until tryouts October 29th. Workouts will work on building muscle and agility. See Coach White or Coach McClure for a calendar of when workouts are being held.

Junior and Freshmen teams making Progress

Coach White looks to have a bright future as Kell's JV and Freshmen teams have had good success this year. Coach Dana Melvin has led the JV team to a 8-7 record including victories against Wheeler and arch-rival Lassiter. Ben Caulk and Bryant Stewart have led the JV Longhorns all season and look to finish strong with three games left on the schedule.
The Freshmen team started out slowly with a 1-6 record before winning five straight games to pull their record to .500, before losing the last two games including a thriller loss to Wheeler in double overtime. The 9th boys Longhorns are led by the Trey Pettiford, Brandon Searcy, Jay Pettiford, and point gaurd Marcus Webb. The Freshmen team looks to take the last three games and end the season 9-8.

Longhorns looking for upset City

With only three games left until the regional tournament, Kell boys Varisty is looking to start a string of upsets and sneak into the State Playoffs. Kell's play of late shows signs of promise as they competed well against Sprayberry and Walton, but fell off late in the game. Kell looks to get revenge of a loss earlier this season Friday night when they host Pope at 7:30 p.m. Saturday will be Senior night as Kell hosts Chatahoochie at 5:00 p.m.
